La cinta Mank, del cineasta David Fincher, lideró este lunes con diez candidaturas las nominaciones de los premios Oscar 2021, anunció la Academia de Hollywood.
Por detrás de esta película de Netflix aparecen media docena de cintas con seis nominaciones cada una: The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Sound of Metal, The Trial of the Chicago 7 y Nomadland, esta última considerada como la gran favorita en esta temporada de premios en Hollywood.
El Oscar a la mejor película se decidirá entre Nomadland, The Trial of the Chicago 7, The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Mank, Minari, Promising Young Woman y Sound of Metal.
Por primera vez dos mujeres figuran entre las cinco nominaciones a Mejor dirección. Se trata de Chloé Zhao, la cineasta detrás de Nomadland, y Emerald Fennell, responsable de Promising Young Woman.
Hasta el momento solo cinco mujeres habían sido candidatas: Lina Wertmüller, Jane Campion, Sofia Coppola, Greta Gerwig y Kathryn Bigelow. La única vencedora fue esta última por la película La noche más oscura.
Ambas cineastas se medirán con Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round), David Fincher (Mank), Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) y Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman).
El premio a la mejor actriz tendrá como aspirantes a Frances McDormand (Nomadland), Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman), Viola Davis (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday) y Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman).
Por su parte, el fallecido Chadwick Boseman podría lograr un Oscar póstumo al mejor actor por Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.
También fueron nominados en este apartado Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Gary Oldman (Mank) y Steven Yeun (Minari".
La cinta chilena El agente topo, de Maite Alberdi, optará a la estatuilla al mejor documental.
En cambio, la categoría de mejor película internacional no incluyó a ninguna de las tres semifinalistas latinas: además de la cinta chilena, llegaban con chances Ya no estoy aquí (México) y La llorona (Guatemala).
Los premios Oscar de la pandemia fueron retrasados dos meses para intentar evitar en parte el impacto del coronavirus y se celebrarán el 25 de abril (el 28 de febrero era la fecha original).
